Raisebore in Ghanaian mines

Airshafts for underground mines are commonly drilled from underground upwards using a technique known as “raiseboring” that involves high load, high torque equipment mounted at the surface on structural concrete footings.

Magryn & Associates has undertaken the designs for these concrete footings for shafts up to 6m diameter and 950m deep, for mining companies across Australia and elsewhere in the world, most notably New Zealand and Ghana.

The challenge at a number of Newmont Mines locations in Ghana was soft surface ground, which required in some cases footings to a depth of 28m.
