Beacon 19 Boat Ramp Upgrade Project in Goolwa

Number 19 Beacon Goolwa Boat Ramp

Upgrade of the Beacon 19 boat ramp near the Goolwa Barrage for Alexandrina Council, a $1.9 million project opened in September 2023 that improves access to the Coorong National Park.

Magryn is proud to have contributed to the significant upgrade of the Beacon 19 Boat Ramp, a vital access point to the Coorong National Park near the Goolwa Barrage.

Officially opened in September 2023, this $1.9 million project, supported by the State Government’s Economic Stimulus funding program, was developed for the Alexandrina Council and executed by McMahon Services Australia in collaboration with Goolwa Jetty Builders.

The Beacon 19 Boat Ramp is now a premier boating facility that promotes Goolwa and its surrounding areas as a prime boating destination.

The upgraded facilities are designed to encourage greater opportunities for linking Beacon 19 with the natural attractions of the Coorong and Lower Lakes, including bird watching, walks, and other marine experiences.

Our Contribution to the Project

Magryn has been involved in multiple iterations of this project since the concept designs in 2014.

Our work included the design of:

  • Dredging Specification: Ensuring the ramp area is navigable and safe for various types of watercraft.

  • Two New Fixed Jetties: Providing robust and durable docking options for boaters.

  • Gangway and Floating Pontoon Finger: Featuring a central pontoon supplied by Superior Jetties, enhancing the accessibility and usability of the facility.

  • Larger Mooring/Fendering Piles: Accommodating larger commercial and tourist vessels, thus expanding the range of boats that can utilise the ramp.

  • Wave Attenuator Mesh: Increasing the usability of the facility even in adverse conditions by reducing wave impact.

  • Innovative Materials: Utilising fibre-reinforced plastic (FRP) members for the jetty deck, subframe, and piles, supplied by Treadwell Group, to ensure strength and low maintenance.

  • Solar Lighting: Enhancing safety and reducing the environmental footprint of the facility.
