Magryn was engaged to provide structural engineering services for the redevelopment of popular café in Moana, located along South Australia’s stunning coastline.
The project involved significant modification of the existing building to create a more open, functional, and inviting space for patrons. Our scope included the design and documentation of new structural steel portal frames and associated footings, which were carefully integrated with the existing masonry structure. The design needed to work around and with the original building shell, requiring detailed site investigation and coordination with the builder to ensure a seamless connection between new and existing elements.
New stair access was introduced through an existing concrete slab, requiring selective demolition and strengthening of surrounding areas to maintain structural integrity. Our team also designed the steel framing to support a new operable Vergola-style roof system, adding flexibility and year-round usability to the outdoor seating area.
Throughout construction, Magryn worked closely with the builder to resolve on-site challenges and adapt the design where needed, ensuring the project could move forward smoothly without compromising quality or safety.
This project highlights our collaborative approach, attention to detail, and ability to deliver creative, buildable solutions in complex retrofit environments.
